Gr. 11 Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology (Make-up Course)
This course introduces the theories, questions, and issues that are the major concerns of anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Students will develop an understanding of the nature-nurture debate, are serial killers born or made by society? They will also begin to learn the Evolution VS Creationism debate, did the human species evolve over time or were we created by a higher power? Students will look at how psychologists view memory, dream analysis, and motivation. Students will also study the Unconscious mind and Freudian slips, psychoanalysis and the history of mental illnesses. Some of these illnesses are Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, Schizophrenic Disorders, Bipolar disorder. Other issues looked at would be Carl Marx, and his conflict theory, child abuse and spousal abuse, divorce, gangs and Leadership, mob mentality, popular culture and fads. Students will learn about Segregation and racism, deviance and social norms and the affects of youth crime on society.
Prerequisite: You must have already completed this course during the current academic school year. The minimum grade allowed to register for this course is 35%.
