English as a Second Language Courses

 

Each full credit course is designed to take 4 months to complete, however, students may work ahead if they wish to finish sooner. Students requiring a longer period of time to finish their course, may apply for a course extension.

    • ESLAO – English as a Second Language Level 1

      English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are intended for students whose first language is a language other than English or is a variety of English significantly different from that used for instruction in Ontario schools. Students in these programs have age-appropriate first-language literacy skills and educational backgrounds.

    • ESLBO – English as a Second Language Level 2

      This course extends students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English for everyday and academic purposes. Students will participate in conversations in structured situations on a variety of familiar and new topics; read a variety of texts designed or adapted for English language learners; expand their knowledge of English grammatical structures and sentence patterns; and link English sentences to compose paragraphs. The course also supports students’ continuing adaptation to the Ontario school system by expanding their knowledge of diversity in their new province and country.
