Interdisciplinary Studies

This course will help students develop and consolidate the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Students will apply the principles and processes of inquiry and research to effectively use a range of print, electronic, and mass media resources; to analyse historical innovations and exemplary research; and to investigate real-life situations and career opportunities in interdisciplinary endeavours. They will also assess their own cognitive and affective strategies, apply general skills in both familiar and new contexts, create innovative products, and communicate new knowledge.

Sports and Entertainment Marketing Course

The course emphasizes the development of practical skills and knowledge in the growing sports and entertainment marketing industry. Through individual and collaborative inquiry students will use a range of print, electronic, and mass media resources to research into contemporary issues and real-life situations in the sports and entertainment marketing industry. Students will acquire knowledge in the areas of consumer behaviour, consumer research, product development, pricing strategies, advertising, public relations/publicity, event marketing, endorsement, promotional licensing, sponsorship, product distribution, and legal issues in the industry. This course prepares students for postsecondary programs in business, including sports and entertainment marketing, marketing and management.

This course combines the expectations for Interdisciplinary Studies, Grade 12, University Preparation with selected expectations from 3 other courses: Introduction to Marketing, Grade 11, College Preparation (BMI3C); Canadian and International Law, Grade 12, University Preparation (CLN4U); and, Analyzing Current Economic Issues, Grade 12, University Preparation (CIA4U). The overall expectations used from the three courses are included in Appendix I.
